The method of outer circle grinding:
1、 Vertical grinding method.
Vertical grinding method is the most commonly used grinding method. During grinding, the worktable undergoes longitudinal reciprocating feed, while the grinding wheel undergoes periodic transverse feed. The grinding allowance of the workpiece needs to be removed through multiple reciprocating strokes.
The characteristics of longitudinal grinding method (referred to as longitudinal method):
① On the entire width of the grinding wheel, the working condition of the abrasive particles is different. The sharp angle of the left (or right) end face of the grinding wheel bears the main cutting effect, and the grinding allowance of the workpiece is cut off by the abrasive particles at the sharp angle of the grinding wheel. On the other hand, the vast majority of the abrasive particles on the width of the grinding wheel bear the role of reducing the surface roughness value of the workpiece.
② The longitudinal grinding method has low grinding force, good heat dissipation conditions, and can achieve high machining accuracy and small surface roughness values.
③ Low labor productivity.
④ Small grinding force, suitable for grinding slender, precision or thin-walled workpieces.
2、 Cutting in grinding method.
Cut in grinding method, also known as lateral grinding method. The length of the outer circle of the workpiece to be ground should be less than the width of the grinding wheel. During grinding, the grinding wheel moves continuously or intermittently in a transverse feed until all the excess material is removed.
There is no longitudinal feed motion during grinding with a grinding wheel. During rough grinding, a higher cutting speed can be used, while during fine grinding, the cutting speed is lower to prevent workpiece burns and thermal deformation.
The characteristics of the cut in grinding method (referred to as the cut in method):
① The working condition of the abrasive grains is the same across the entire width of the grinding wheel, fully utilizing the grinding effect of all abrasive grains. At the same time, due to the use of continuous lateral feed, the basic grinding time is shortened, resulting in high production efficiency.
② The radial grinding force is relatively large, and the workpiece is prone to bending deformation, which is generally not suitable for grinding finer workpieces.
③ During grinding, significant grinding heat is generated, making the workpiece prone to burns and thermal deformation.
④ The morphology of the grinding wheel surface (repair marks) will be copied onto the surface of the workpiece, affecting the surface roughness of the workpiece. To eliminate the above defects, a slight vertical movement can be made at the end of the insertion method.
⑤ The cutting method is limited by the width of the grinding wheel and is only suitable for grinding outer circular surfaces with shorter lengths.
